FDS
The non-profit FDS Foundation is the operator of the SMARTments student apartment houses. It emerged from the Förderkreis Deutscher Studenten e. V.(society for the promotion of German students), founded in 1971, which was already at that time committed to the construction and operation of student halls of residence on a charitable basis. In the 1970s, when accommodation for young people was also in short supply, the members of FDS e.V. succeeded with a great deal of voluntary commitment in building and operating publicly funded student homes in Bavaria, which are still extremely popular addresses among today's students. Some of the people who, as students, put their vision into practice continue to be active in the Foundation's committees. Around 10 years ago, the SMARTments student brand was developed; in 2012, the first building named after the international law expert Albrecht Mendelssohn-Bartholdy was opened in Hamburg. There are now SMARTments students properties in 13 university cities in Germany and Austria. With almost fifty years of experience, the non-profit FDS Foundation is an established professional institution in the field of student housing. As a charitable organisation it pursues exclusively this statutory objective without any intention of making a profit.
